Our Story
Hello Everyone,
I am Prof. Oswald Simon , retired Head of English from a Post- Graduate College in Agra.
Agra is a historical city of India.
My passion for collecting stamps and old coins date back to late sixties till present. My late mother, as a school going young girl, had a fierce passion to collect coins when India was a British colony. I inherited this hobby from my mother and started developing an interest in stamps as well. Collecting stamps (Philately) is the study of postage stamps and related postal history items.
Philately encompasses the history, design and usage of stamps as well as the broader context of postal systems. Philately is a popular hobby, though on the decline in India. It grew and flourished since the mid 1800’s. Philately involves examining stamps to understand their designs, production methods and variations such as different shades and colours, papers, perforations and watermarks.
Numismatics is the study of coins, currency and other related items like tokens and medals, focusing on their history, production and significance. It’s more than just collecting coins: it involves scholarly research into the physical aspects of these metallic objects, their designs, material and the historical context in which they were created and used. It’s not just about the physical objects themselves, but also about understanding their historical, political, cultural and socio-economic context.
Be an inspired and passionate Philatelist and Numismatist and add to your collection in order to enrich it further.
God Bless !
